PASSPORT- 43: JOHN SNODGRASS (DRAG THE RIVER)
Drag The River komt uit Denver en is opgebouwd rond enkele punkiconen uit het lokale circuit aldaar. Zoals wel vaker het geval is gaan oude punkers country spelen en wordt de punk even “on hold” gezet. “The hardest working band in the world” is een cliché dat van stal wordt gehaald in de band’s bio. Spijkerbroeken als werkuniform en niet als fashion statement. Het zal wel. Er lijkt overigens weinig “fashion” aan dit vijftal te zitten en ze hebben het statement niet nodig om sympathie op te wekken. Dat doet de muziek wel voor ze. Ze willen geen alt.country zijn maar zijn waarschijnlijk het prototype daarvan. Ze maken in ieder geval stevige country rock en zingen over ellende. Soms met knipoog, soms alsof het leven er van af hangt. Als je dit jaar bijvoorbeeld al genoot van The Willy Clay Band maar je verlangt naar iets meer stof op de laarzen of modder op je sneakers, zoals The Bottle Rockets dat hebben, dan is Drag The River het alternatief. 1. What’s in the name/what’s in the title ?
Drag the River? well our friend came up with it and then we found there to be a band from Atlanta who had the name in the early '90's...their lawyer is nice.
"it's crazy."? well....it is crazy, that's it.
2. What’s your first musical memory ?
My Granddad singing....he was pretty badass.
3. First cd/lp you bought ?
A Flock of Seagulls or Kris Kristofferson's Greatest Hits....I forget. ADAM & the ANTS "prince charming" was in there too cuz the store was out of the NEW one at the time....I remember that and actually prefer that one still....P.C. that is.
4. At which moment did you decide that your music had to be heard ?
...can't say I've decided that yet actually.
5. What was the biggest musical step you took so far ?
Stepped on a stage, I talk a lot but I'm pretty shy actually.
6. Biggest wish ?
To never get a real job.
7. Best concert you ever saw ?
Rocket from the Crypt....many times.
8. Who would you chose to sing “Love Hurts” with (and you can’t ask for Emmylou) ?
That’s a secret.
9. It’s the end of the world and everybody knows it and they ask you to sing one more song for the whole wide world ! Which one are going to pick ?

10. What’s up for the next couple of months ?
Nevada, California,Oregon,Washington, Montanna, Wyoming, fly to FLA.
drive back out to the Midwest for a tour with our buddies LUCERO from Memphis. Finish the split with the DENTS from Boston....actually... to answer #8 perhaps check the DENTS in that category.
