Slobberbone deed het voor. Nu is er Slick Fifty Seven, of is het Slick 57? "Doesn't Matter", zegt mede-oprichter Ward Richmond. Geeft niet, hier is:
HANK ON SPEED
Your cd will be reviewed in Heaven, a dutch national music magazine. What about that?
"Good stuff!! Thanks".
Seems like your 3rd cd is somewhat of a breakthrough. Any idea how that is possible?
'John (Pedigo) and I have been playing in bands and writing songs together for 7+ years... I
think we just finally found our nitch."
Tell me more about the Slobberbone-connection?
"They're from Dallas, so are we. EYTWRWWT is one of my favorite records, ever! I think Slobberbone's one of
the hardest working bands out there. They have a lot of knowledge about the business side of music and have barrels of advice for novices like us!! We're not all best friends... We just share the mutual respect of being two of the best bands in Dallas.... heh heh!. ..Did I mention that we can drink them under the table??
Well, maybe...."
More interesting countryrootsbands over there?
"Too many!! Speedtrucker and 1100 Springs are 2 dallas bands that immediately come to mind. Pure Texas honkytonk. Flametrick Subs are a cool psychobilly band from Austin. I'm severely attracted to Cherilyn from the Meat Purveyors. We're playing with them this Friday in New Orleans so I'm preparing my best mack. She has no idea who I am... yet."
My conclusion of your LAST cd: you jump right into the hole Slobberbone made. They are now more rock then roots (at least their last album is).
"I can see that. We have so many other influences besides Slobberbone though. I think
we're both doing our own thing... ya know?"
Tell me more about the bandmembers? Can you make a living of playing in a band?
"John and I started the band together. We both write songs. He writes more than I do...I do most
of our booking/ business stuff. Trey's an unbelievable drummer. We go through steel players like we go through beers. We want a full time steel guitar player but it's hard to find one. The guy touring Europe with us hasn't even done a gig with us yet. His first Slick 57 show *ever* will be in London. After the Europe tour, we're goin straight to Australia where an Australian guy will play steel for us... We've never even met him!! He's on our label, though. Our label kicks ass by the way! We all quit our jobs this week!! Good times are what we live for!!"
What does the bandname mean?
"It is the name of our band."
Musical influences of the bandmembers?
"I'll speak for myself: I have too many to name. Right now I listen to the Strokes a lot. I love the whole
rock-n-roll movement that's happening now with all of those bands... it's cool. I like old rockabilly (Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, etc.), old country (Hank Sr., Johnny C., Waylon), old punk(Ramones, Dead Milkmen) &
new punk rock (Green Day, Alkaline Trio). When it comes to "new" country, most people claim to
hate it... *But*, if you drink a 12 pack of cold beer, take 3 bong hits and watch the Toby Kieth's "I wanna Talk About Me" video, you might just change your mind... The Country-rap movement is next!!
Why haven't we heard earlier from Slick 57, or is it Fifty Seven?
"57 or Fifty Seven... doesn't matter... We've been in college, gettin' educated. Learning all
about casual sex and binge drinking."
End: Say something about:
Amsterdam --- "I think I'm losin my mind this time, this time I'm losin my mind!"
Hank Williams --- "From what I've read, Hank was a crazy ass motherfucker. His music is obviouslygreatness. I'm sure we would've gotten along."
Whiskey --- For some reason, I forced myself to acquire a taste for the stuff when I was in high school.... It's very very dangerous!"
Tornado's --- "Last year I was outside in the middle of a tornado in Pine Mills, TEXAS. We were hitting golf balls into it.... it was crazy!! By the way, never try to take a piss while your outside during a
tornado."
Tom Tom Club -- Supposedly the best club in the Netherlands!! Is it in a barn? That's what the Slobberbone guys said...I hope so!!! You'll have to ask me this one next time."
